Thanks to the Honda press office I have been driving a Honda Civic Tourer during the Christmas and New Year break. And what a delight it has turned out to be.

I think we all know that it is the Jazz and the Civic which have been leading the charge for Honda for sometime with the promise of more models to come in 2015 to widen the appeal of the whole Honda range.

I thought I knew a bit about the Civic but this particular model proved a revelation.

On two fronts.

Firstly it has an incredibly lively performance despite also offering 74.3mpg (combined) and only 99g/km CO2. The six speed gearbox is a joy and transported me back to the days of “real driving”.

Secondly, the electronics as a complete package have to be seen to be believed. I am not suggesting that this level of technology is not available elsewhere – it clearly is – but the integrated completeness of such a wide package makes the car truly exciting.

And a smile factor? For a car to appeal it has to have a smile factor and for me it is the Smart Entry and Start that made me smile every time I used it.

I am sorry to see it returned to the press office.
